The Youth Services Bureau, Operation Come Home, and Christie Lake Kids want you to play ping pong in the 2^nd Annual Ottawa Charity Ping Pong Tournament.  We are bringing together people, ping pong, athleticism, and fun in an effort to raise money and awareness for these local charities. We are thrilled to be hosting this event at Capital Music Hall located at 128 York Street in the Byward Market. With over 150 participants expected, this is sure to be a ping pong event of epic proportions. The fun begins Saturday September 24^th 2011 at noon.

The Rules….keeping it inbounds

Attire

1)      All players and spectators MUST be wearing white. Any player not wearing white during match-play runs the risk of forfeiting that match; the referees will use their discretion in ruling a forfeit.

Match

2)      An OCPP match consists of one game. The winner is the first player to obtain 15 points with a margin of victory equal to or greater than 2 points. Match play will continue until a player has achieved a 2 point spread. A point is awarded at the end of every rally, regardless of who served.

Service

3)      A coin toss prior to match play will determine which player serves first. The player who wins the toss gets choice of serve or side. Service will switch after every 5 points. To be considered a legal serve, the ball must first bounce in the server’s court before crossing over or around the net and landing in the receiver’s court. If the ball strikes the net during service but is otherwise legal, it will be considered a let and a re-serve will be awarded.  

Return

4)     The ball, having been served or returned, shall be struck so that is passes over or around the net and touches the opponent’s court, either directly or after touching the net. A series of good returns are considered a rally. The last player to make a good return will be considered the winner of the rally, and awarded a point.

 Interruptions

5)   The referee will use his or her discretion, to interrupt match play and or award a let; resulting in a re-serve and or lose of serve. Match play may be interrupted to correct an error in the order of play; to warn or penalise a player; or because conditions of play are disturbed in a way which could affect the outcome of the rally…..

Fun

6)     If you feel you’re not having any, a refreshing beverage will turn things around!

Le PPCO (ping-pong de charité d’Ottawa) est un organisme à but non lucratif qui présente le plus magnifique tournoi de ping-pong jamais vu dans la capitale nationale! Le tournoi annuel du PPCO est une merveilleuse occasion de s’amuser, de nouer de nouvelles amitiés et de participer à une excellente activité sportive. Toutes les recettes seront versées aux oeuvres de bienfaisance locales suivantes : Bureau des services à la jeunesse, Christie Lake Kids, Opération rentrer au foyer.

Le Bureau des services à la jeunesse d’Ottawa s’adresse à des jeunes de 12 ans et plus. Ce sont des jeunes ayant des difficultés physiques et/ou affectives, et nous leur aidons à prendre des décisions positives en matière de santé et de mode de vie.

Nous veillons à ce que les jeunes sans abri ne deviennent pas des adultes sans abri!

Les règles …. respecter la consigne

Tenue

1)      Les joueurs et les spectateurs DOIVENT être vêtus de blanc. Toute personne non vêtue de blanc pour un match ou une partie risque d’être disqualifiée. C’est à l’arbitre qu’il revient de déclarer une disqualification.

Match

2)      Un match du PPCO représente une partie. La personne gagnante est la première à marquer 15 points avec une marge de victoire égale ou supérieure à 2 points. Un match se poursuit jusqu’à ce qu’un joueur ait atteint une marge de 2 points. Un point est accordé à la fin de chaque échange, peu importe qui a servi.

Service

3)     Avant le match, un coup de pile ou face détermine quel joueur sera le premier à servir. La personne qui gagne le coup de pile ou face choisit le service ou le côté. Il y a un changement de serveur tous les 5 points. Pour qu’un service soit valable, la balle doit d’abord bondir dans le court du serveur avant de passer par-dessus ou autour du filet pour atterrir sur le court du receveur. Si la balle touche le filet durant le service tout en demeurant valable, le coup est un let et le service doit être repris.  

Retour

4)     La balle, une fois servie ou retournée, doit passer par-dessus ou autour du filet et atteindre le court de l’adversaire, soit directement, soit après avoir touché le filet. Plusieurs retours forment un échange. Le dernier joueur à réussir un retour est déclaré gagnant de l’échange et reçoit un point.

 Interruptions

5)   L’arbitre peut, à sa discrétion, interrompre le jeu et/ou déclarer un let. Il faut alors servir de nouveau et/ou le service est perdu. Le jeu peut être interrompu pour corriger une erreur dans le déroulement du jeu, pour avertir ou pénaliser un joueur, ou à cause d’une perturbation qui risque d’influencer le résultat du jeu …..

6)     Si vous trouvez que ce n’est pas amusant, dégustez quelque chose de rafraîchissant et ça ira mieux!
